Home sweet home and seven hearty tales

Mealamu, Keven

Notes
Clever turtles, a heroic rescue cat, a lost rabbit and a very special dog are just a few of the characters starring in this charming collection of stories, written by the eight winners of this year's Barfoot & Thompson Young Authors Challenge.
These varied and exciting tales are full of laughs, lessons and a bit of luck, all with the heart-warming theme of 'there's no place like home'.
The book was edited by renowned author, Maria Gill, and illustrated by rugby legend, Keven Mealamu, plus several other talented Kiwi artists.
All proceeds from the sale of the storybook go towards The Magic of Reading Programme. This provides overnighting patients in Starship Children's Hospital and Whangarei Hospital Children's Ward with their own book to read and keep.
The Barfoot & Thompson Young Authors Challenge short story competition, now in its eighth year, gives winners the chance to become real-life published authors. Our 2015 supreme winner was Josephine Sim, who wrote the title story 'Home Sweet Home'. Out of over 1,100 entries received from primary and intermediate aged authors from across Auckland, we selected eight gifted young writers' stories to be a part of this year's storybook. Winning entries were selected based on their use of the theme 'there's no place like home', the development of their characters and settings, and the positive messages that their stories told.
